French Onion Soup

Ingredients
- 6 large yellow onions, sliced thinly into half rounds
- 1/2 c (1 stick) butter
- 2 cans beef broth (10.75 oz each)
- 1 soup can water (10.75 oz)
- 1 soup can dry white wine (10.75 oz)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tbsp flour
- 6 slices french bread, cut 1" thick, toasted
- 3/4 grated mixed gruyere and parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Melt butter in large saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Add onions and sauté until lightly brown, about 15-20 minutes.
- Add 1 tbsp flour and stir for 1 minute.
- Add beef broth, wine, water, and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Spoon into 6 oven-proof soup bowls.
- Top each bowl with a piece of toast and cheese.
- Broil in the oven until cheese is melted and golden brown.
